The best of African arts and crafts
| The traditional arts and crafts of Africa have much to do with the cultural beliefs religions and practices of the past and as they continue and develop to the present day. Contemporary arts and crafts are informed by past and continuing traditions and not rigidly dictated by them. They have changed and will continue to change to meet the challenges and demands of modern times, reflecting Africa's interaction with the modern world and influences both within and outside Africa. Art is not static nor should it be. Crafts are an expression of the artistic mind. But tradition will always have a dominating effect, whether as an underlying theme or as an overriding motif. |
